Number of applicants is increasing
Almost 5700 applications to SAMK
The application period for the achelor's degree programmes in Finnish has ended. The number of applicants applying to SAMK is rising: SAMK received almost 5700 applications, of which over 1800 were from students who marked SAMK as their forst choice. The total intake for the bachelor’s degree programmes is 923.
The amount of primary applicants rose over 20 percent from last year and the amount of all applicants increased nearly 15 percent. Technology and Maritime Management had the biggest enhancement with over a 26 percent increase from last year. The increase results from the growing interest in Mechanical and Production Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The advancement can be seen in SAMK’s all other programmes, too. Business and Culture had an increase of over 11 percent and 23 percent in Social Services and Health Care.
- The number of applications rose also on a nationwide scale. All in all, there were 64 600 applicants in Finland and a 13 percent increase from last year, states Janne Santala, Head of Student Administration in Satakunta University of Applied Sciences.
Physiotherapy still interests the most
The Degree Programme in Physiotherapy was the most popular of the degree programmes offered by SAMK: there was over ten primary applicants per every starting place. Physiotherapy has been remarkably appealing for years. Next in line were Social Services and Business Administration in Pori.
The invitations for the entrance examinations will be sent during week 22. The entrance examinations will take place in the beginning of June. The results will be announced to the applicants in July at the earliest.
Application periods for the Degree Programmes of Adult Education and the Master's Degree Programmes are presently going on and end by 30 April 2009. SAMK also has an application period for Professional Specialisation Studies from the 14 April to 15 May.
